ASILE conference presentation:
Workshop Multimedia Texts and Tasks in the Australian Curriculum (Indonesian) Abstract How do you engage your students and ensure that they are learning the most appropriate and useful Indonesian in the communicating and understanding strands? And how do you incorporate ‘intercultural understandings’ in to your learning programs? A useful and engaging way is through the use of short multimedia texts from Indonesian television and film. It must be remembered that the ‘what’ you choose, in terms of a multimedia text is as important as the ‘how’ you use it in your teaching and learning program. In this workshop participants will consider some ideas on developing a series of tasks based on short multimedia texts from television and film, enriching the language of Communicating and Understanding and developing students’ understandings of Indonesian cultural concepts and values. The importance of using appropriate questioning for both the teacher and the student will also be addressed in the context of levels of comprehension and Eric Frangenheim’s Thinking Framework based on Bloom’s revised Taxonomy. Participants will work collaboratively or individually to design and create a multimedia text-based task to engage students across any one of the F-10 bands. |
