ASILE conference presentation:
Workshop Attending to 'culture' in 'intercultural understanding': A case study of Indonesian language teachers in Australian schools. Abstract The National Australia Indonesia Language Awards or NAILA is a not-for-profit initiative of the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association. It aims to reward and incentivise the study of Indonesian as a second language in Australia at all levels. You can read more about NAILA here: http://naila.org.au/ Last year we received 70 high-quality entries for our inaugural speech competition from across all states and territories. In 2016, primary and secondary school students are invited once again to participate in a national speech competition culminating with a prestigious awards ceremony and networking event. Students, teachers and parents found participation in last year’s competition valuable and used it as a way to motivate their students and gain support from parents to encourage their children to continue studying Indonesian. NAILA would like to host a interactive workshop outlining the benefits of taking part in the competition: an innovative and engaging strategy to encourage students to broaden their vocabulary and improve their pronunciation. |
